Who we are​

We are a team of change-makers who believe that every helping hand can help create a better future for them.

As a not-for-profit community-based organization, the Helping Hands Capacity Building Centre is committed to improving the physical, spiritual, emotional, cultural and mental well-being of our community; nurturing skills in self- reliance and community wellness. This objective is incorporated into all aspects of our programming to promote co-operation, dedication and the embrace of our culture with pride, and respect.

Our approach

Our Mission​
Our mission is to provide social development support through capacity building initiative to empower vulnerable individuals especially youths, women, seniors and person with disability through basic career training and Computer skills, micro loan projects, social development initiatives and community mobilization.

We provide settlement and integration support, and employment assistance for newcomers especially vulnerable women and girls. We also provide counselling, social and advocacy support system for women impacted by gender-base- violence and connect them with appropriate social and justice systems.

Our Vision​
We promote stable community’s activities rooted in peace, independence, and self-sufficiency to facilitate the growth and development of Black women, youth and less privileged members in our community. ​

Our entire team wants to increase accessibility to social programming for vulnerable seniors and deliver of nutritional food to vulnerable black and visible minority families to combat food insecurity.

Our mandate

HHCBC achieves its mandate and upholds its vision by providing direct services to at least 125 families or more annually. These services include:

1. Providing settlement and integration support, and employment assistance for newcomers especially vulnerable women and girls.
2. Providing counselling, social and advocacy support system for women impacted by gender-base- violence and connect them with appropriate social and justice systems.
3. Increasing accessibility to social programming for vulnerable seniors
4. Delivery of nutritional food to vulnerable black and visible minority families to combat food insecurity
5. Collaborating with government departments and agencies, public and private organizations to help reduce the number of socially vulnerable persons especially women and youths facing social isolation,
6. Capacity building for women, youths and young adults to establish and operate small, medium enterprise (SME), link them with small grants and loans to support the social and economic participation and inclusion of women and young adults in the labor market.
7. Consulting with women in the community to identify non-legal conflict mediation strategies to assist women and youths with conflict or legal entanglements.
8. Support community to combat pandemic through the provision of emergency preparedness strategies.
